Project Overview / The Challenge:

The Camuy Dog Park project was conceived to transform an underutilized urban space into a vibrant public area that would serve as both a gateway to the city and a catalyst for pedestrian traffic and community connectivity. The challenge was to create a small yet impactful park that integrates thoughtful design with specific community needs, enhancing the overall urban experience.

Our Approach / The PIERI Solution:

Our approach focused on integrating "Complete Streets" principles to ensure safe and accessible pathways, seamlessly connecting the park to the broader city fabric. Through close collaboration with the client and project team, we developed a design that balances aesthetics, functionality, and community engagement, transforming an underutilized space into a cherished community asset.

Key Design Features / Innovations:

  • Community Nexus & Gateway: Strategically positioned to act as a central hub, fostering interaction and connection among residents and visitors, while establishing a welcoming threshold to the city.
  • Elegant Enclosure: Features a trellis structure made of curved Cor-Ten steel columns, planted with bougainvillea, creating a lush, vibrant boundary between the park's interior and exterior spaces.
  • Tailored Dog Recreation Areas: Two separate zones with individual entrances cater to small and large dogs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all pets and their owners.

Anticipated Outcomes & Aspirations:

The Camuy Dog Park is envisioned to become a cherished community asset, significantly enhancing the urban experience and fostering greater community connectivity.
